Congratulations to Cam(eron) Norrie for winning Indian Wells the other week and thus becoming the male British no. 1. He’s one of the players who the freeze in rankings because of the pandemic didn’t help, and as I remember from Queen’s, has certainly been threatening to advance like this in 2021, and now he’s finally pushed through the barrier of winning a final, which much be all the sweeter as he did it from being down in the final set. Having said that, I see he’s out of the Vienna Open.

I got hold of a Chambers hardback copy of this book (a reprint) - I wasn't struck by anything additional that wasn't in the paperback edition, but I haven't compared page by page or anything. (ETA: My Armada paperback is a 'revised edition' which was first published in 1970. Still couldn't tell you how revised it is, though.)

Cherry Ames at Spencer

Some other time, I will do the research and write something more considered about Cherry Ames - both girl detective and career girl and surely the poster girl for the hybrid-type series, usually published by World Distributors. She takes on a different nursing job in each book, which seems to involve a child-appropriate mystery and good-looking young doctors who would sure like to know rosy-cheeked Cherry better. Unlike the heroines of other nursing books, she must always disappoint them, because she always loves Dr Joe* the most.
