Fathers coaching daughters was a recurring theme (perhaps because Bartoli made her father leave in the previous match) but what no-one talks about, because they take it for granted, is how many male coaches there are on the women’s tour. I’ve only seen a handful of women coaches. Surely the talents of ex-players with the requisite skills are being wasted badly here.

Andy Murray looks leaner than he did at Queen's. Is it the change of colour in his t-shirts? The facial hair or has he lost weight? I only saw a few minutes of Venus Williams in play, but I did gawp at her outfit. It mustn't hamper her play, although with all that material flapping about, you'd think it would.

I came home to hear Sue Barker bemoaning that there wasn't likely to be any tennis tonight, but I kept the television on and was rewarded by seeing people in the crowd close their umbrellas and the court get uncovered. I then saw the players walking out - the above quote was the voice of someone on the other end of the radio to one of the officials walking past. It made me chuckle, anyway. Read more... )

I had a look at the order of play for yesterday and had little hope of seeing Murray play, but I thought I might get to see Nadal and then Del Potro. But there was rain and it looks as if the Djokovic vs. Federer semi at the French will be the go to rain delay match. Read more... )
