The mammoth final rather took up my day, yesterday. Read more... )

I only found out about this this week thanks to Radio 2, but The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon is apparently writing a musical adaptation of Swallows and Amazons for the National Theatre. (That might actually work, mightn't it?) Having said that, there didn't seem to be much beyond the announcement, which was made in 2007, so the project may have stalled.

I have been watching (too much) of the Aussie Open, but I haven't got around to noting my thoughts, partly because life is hectic, and partly because of timing - it's as if there's always something new to comment upon. Read more... )

So far I have been keeping up with the Australian Open by reading online round ups, and watching whichever live match Eurosport is showing at the time when I'm eating my breakfast and getting ready for the day ahead. So, yesterday I watched three potential seed upsets. Which all goes to say that I haven't yet been able to watch a match through, and follow its rhythms - in fact, I hadn't even seen any women's tennis until last night, when I caught some highlights.

Anyway, I'm watching much less of the Australian Open this year than I was last, but that's a good thing because it kept me entertained during a patch of insomnia that I do not want to go through again. I mean, I even knew what the time difference was between here and Melbourne last year. But then, I woke up round six this morning and decided to switch the TV on rather than doze.

Serena has to be the favourite for the women's (I speak without paying much attention to form and Jnkovic has to prove herself)…but I could see any of the top 4 men winning it. (I say that even though/because I am watching Tsonga).
