I made the effort to find out most of the results yesterday (it looks as if the women's singles results are surprisingly NOT going to be a surprise) and then to watch matches on the BBC's website. I did manage to squeeze in some gymnastics and swimming as well. Is it true that Gary Lineker is one of the highest paid BBC presenters now? I don't know if it's because I keep catching him interviewing overwhelmed champions, but the words 'hole' 'sucking' and 'charisma' have been coming to mind when I've seen him, whereas Claire Baldwin, for instance, is much more engaging.

Anyway, back to the tennis! I started watching in time to see Federer win - he looks hungry for the gold, duly followed by Del Potro. That'll be a tasty match. Actually, it's a really good semi final line up in the men's. I then saw all of the second set of Sharapova versus Clisters, where Kim did not let Maria have it all her own way, but Maria looked imperious at her best and even smilier than at Wimbledon when she won. As if that wasn't enough, I got to see Murray and Robson against the Slovak pair. I do think it's a swizz that they go for an extended tiebreak and not a third set, but the Brits (or adopted Aussie and Scot) put together a very good run to get back into the best of 10, so well done them. However, I will find it hard to root against Stosur and Hewitt, because he has so much heart, this is his last chance (?) and surely her serve is better than his. May the best team win.

I find it interesting that I have no desire to watch hockey, although I'll happily read descriptions of matches in fiction. Of course, in Girls Own books, they're usually from a player's POV and, if you're lucky, reveal something about character.
