Day two:
Saw the end of Murray (in purring form) drubbing Davydenko. Then I found out about all the Brits that went through...one of them a man!...and watched a parochial ‘Today at Wimbledon’ with umbrellas. I have no idea of the quality of her play, but I imagine Serena must be relieved to be through. (At the same time as holding that view, I hold the view: Don’t Discount Serena.) Personally, I’d have put Sharapova vs. Pironkova on Centre, rather than Clisters vs. Whoever...

Day three:
Which was, of course, the first match I ended up watching (as I had no interest in watching Roddick beat Baker. The Czech player did a respectable job (but should listen to Professor Tracey Austin for top tips). I felt vindicated about my thoughts about putting Sharapova vs. Pironkova on Centre, however. WHAT a first set. Pironkova out-hitting Sharapova, but the champion finding the wherewithal to fight back. Pironkova did choke. I learned a few things about Sharapova (!) or things that hadn't registered before, that she's from Siberia and that she's a natural leftie who was made to play right-handed (!!). We knew about the mental toughness. As I'd closed my blinds and switched the lights on, I had some sympathy for her arguments about the failing light. For the sake of the match, it would have been better to have finished at one game all - Sharapova directed her wrath into her tennis.

And then there was still tennis thanks to the roof. High-quality stuff, if not that involving, because we missed the game where Harrison could have broken, and so Djokovic won like the scoreline predicted he would.
