TENNIS: French Open - QFs day two
Jun. 7th, 2012 08:47 amI'm operating on too little sleep and trying not to think about how much I spent on an item of clothing yesterday (50% off and just the colours I wanted is my only defence.)
Also, there was tennis. I wish they'd decided to show the Kvitova vs Shevedova match, as it was more competitive and had a better story. As soon as it became obvious that Kaneppi wasn't bringing enough to string together a couple of points, certainly not enough to make Sharapova worry about needing to change her game (ha!) or the level at which she was playing it, it got boring and disappointing. I was glad to switch over and see Kvitova be hungry and win through, as you'd expect someone of her level to, while Shvedova maybe faltered after playing all that tennis and realising what was required to get to the next round.
All the women need to bring it today and defend their honour. Surely Errani can't make it any further? But then, this is the women's game and I won't predict anything. Either Sharapova or Kvitova could concievably dominate the other, or it could be a nerve-shredding affair.
I thought Ferrer would win, but that Murray could. And watching the match, I still thought he could win it (he lost it at the start of the third and fourth). It got increasingly difficult to get excited if Murray broke Ferrer as he let the Spaniard break back immediately.
Meanwhile, Nadal is still ominous. Can Ferrer get a set off him?
