TENNIS: The Australian Open

feather_ghyllIt’s very frustrating not to be able to watch the tennis – I can only go look at the BBC Tennis page of a morning and see what’s been going on, although apparently they’re going to show one men's semi-final and the finals. As with last year, it feels like the top four men are on course to meet – with a slight shuffle as to who meets who. In its way this is fascinating: will Djokovic continue his supremacy? Can Nadal, who was the most wounded, metaphorically speaking, last year, for all that he won the French, claw something back? Can Federer pick up where he left off last year and continue to prove that he’s not over IN AN OLYMPIC YEAR? Can Murray step up a gear with Lendl's coaching?
Meanwhile, the women’s game is a total contrast. Four grand slam champions last year AND Serena Williams AND Maria Sharapova, not to mention Wozniacki’s need to get out of the Jankovic and Safina club. Apparently, going into the Australian Open, five women could have ended up world number 1 depending on what happened and one of them was Radwanska...? The mind boggles.
That is to say I have no idea who will win the women's championship. I'd like Kvitova to. I expect Djokovic will win the men's, but I'd rather Nadal or Murray did, or Federer if he played superlatively.
