TENNIS: More of the Australian Open

For the past couple of days, I’ve kept up with the results online then watched the red button round-up while knowing the result, although I seem to be hopeless at retaining the score, which has added a little freshness. So, I knew that Nadal was going to get injured and lose to Ferrer, but it wasn’t a hardship to watch the two Spaniards play, although I did have a twinge at Nadal’s face. He was so flummoxed and disappointed that things weren’t working! I didn't want to see him look like that! Still, Ferrer seemed to be playing very aggressively, so nothing should be taken away from him.
I also knew that Murray would drop a set against Dolgopolov, but mostly contain him, although there’s another prospect who's name I may have to get used to typing and not have to look up. But Murray’s form and general game should give him the extra something to outplay Ferrer, unless if he lets Ferrer dictate the play/baseline rallies. I don’t know – maybe I should check their record.
I should have done that with the women, because the ease of Clijsters’ win over Zvonareva surprised me, but with hindsight, previous results and Li Na’s form make the final less surprising, although a part of me was expecting Wozniacki to prove the Number 1 without a grand slam doubters wrong, or at least to be beaten by Clijsters in the final. (So that debate rumbles on). I still think it is the Belgian’s to win, especially as she hasn’t won the Aussie Open before despite her quality and the fact that they’ve adopted her.
And then the men’s first semi... Beforehand, I thought that it would be a real test of both their forms (they’d mostly been unruffled but each had at least one toughie). Well, it was, wasn’t it!? And that was the only Federer match I got to see a chunk of (in the red button round up). Of course, Djokovic has pedigree, but since his service deserted him, he’s just headed the pack with Nadal and Federer in a class of their own to a large extent and never progressed into being quite the threat he could have. But it’s all come together for Djokovic AND he doesn’t have to face Nadal. There’s a part of me that hopes that we do get to see Djokovic versus Murray (apart from the obvious reasons of supporting Murray) because it’s sort of a showcase of the coming men, as they have long threatened to be. Having said that, Murray has to beat Ferrer, and everyone assumed that Nadal would do that...
