TENNIS: French Open
Jun. 3rd, 2010 07:23 pmI feel sorry for whoever got tickets for the women's semi-finals today. I didn't watch it live, but kept an eye on the BBC's updated online. Hopefully the men's will be better (I have the day off and plan to watch them). After Stosur beat Williams, I realised that whoever won the Slam would be a first-time winner. I saw most of the Stosur-Jankovic match being repeated. Stosur seemed to be more present, basically. I haven't sceen Schiavone play, but I'm interested in what they said about the spins, and will probably be supporting Stosur.
Apart from Venus-Petrova, there seemed to be a pattern of me missing all the upsets - although with Venus-Petrova, the commentary seemed to revolve around Williams and when she'd get her act together although Petrova was playing well and indeed was the best player on the day. I missed Soderling beating Federer, Melzer beating Djokovic (who I thought would make it through until Nadal would toss him out). I haven't seen Berdych play (again, I missed Murray play him, and lose).
After the first few days of the Open, I thought that we were set for seeing the winner of the Henin-S. Williams match that never happened win and Nadal meet Federer. Well, it hasn't turned out like that.
