Just to observe that, as so often, four different women won a Grand Slam this year, with Sabalenka being the only one to defend one, although Swiatek and Gauff were adding more to their tallies, while Keys won her maiden slam. Sabalenka’s record in tiebreaks is apparently record breaking.

I got the chance to watch the full men’s final on YouTube, and it was so evident that the serve was crucial. Alcaraz’s has improved, Sinner’s was a little off. It was also a battle between the players to play the match on their terms. Jim Courier was commentating and arguing that the cooler conditions gave Alcaraz more options. Sinner actually won the most spectacular point of the match, but Alcaraz won the more important ones with that remarkable variety.

Jack Draper won’t be playing for the rest of the season due to injury, which is such a shame, because that whole year he was healthy, we was so good.

More by accident than design, I found out that Prime was showing the Davis Cup. So, I fast forwarded through Norrie beating a young Pole first in a tiebreak, then more straightforwardly in the second set, and watched most of Arthur Fery’s first match on the Davis Cup team – Fearnley had pulled out an hour or a few hours before. His opponent was always trying to play a forehand, and seemed more physically compromised. Dan Evans was one of the commentators and pointed out that Fery needed a bit more awareness of the value of a point – criticising on break points (and he could have had early double breaks in both sets if he’d stayed solid and let his opponent make mistakes) and the first point of a game, and also for trying to come in off the wrong ball. The quality of the stream and sound weren’t quite what one’s used to. I didn't manage to watch any other matches or ties. (I watched the men's French Open final on YT instead - in two sittings.)
