UPDATE: February so far

feather_ghyllI haven't posted for over a month, so here's some of what I've been up to. Reading ‘The Clue in the Castle’ by Joyce Bevins Webb and wondering if I will read a more bonkers girls own plot this year. I was a bit late starting Rereading February as a result, and because my reading pace has slowed, I won’t be rereading many books, but I may post about the book I’m currently reading here. Still in lockdown, enjoying my daily walks and the fact the day is lengthening.
I only followed the Australian Open headlines, so saw names like Barty, Osaka, Williams and Djokovic, Nadal and Tsitsipas until it came to the finals. I followed the women’s final more closely, and thought Osaka was the favourite, but then, I honestly hadn’t heard of Jennifer Brady, not even that she’d been a semi-finalist at the US Open, which she backd up in this tournament. Osaka’s experience showed, helping her to bring her better and stronger game much more consistently – gutting to lose a set with a ball in the net. She’s inching ahead of the pack, isn’t she, though she’s yet to make much of a mark in the French and Wimbledon. She must be desperately hoping they find a way to hold the Tokyo Olympics. I assumed Djokovic was the favourite in the men’s, but wondering how Medvedev would play in this test aganst him. Djokovic began the first set being unplayable, but Medvedev regrouped. It turned out that the first set was the only competitive one he could manage (was allowed to manage?), and Djokovic was imperious. The Australian Slam really is his – eight is impressive, and unlike Federer and Nadal, he has age on his side, and the next gen (bar Thiem) are still containable.
Here’s hoping for Wimbledon in some form.
