Day one

I started watching as Muguruza and the almost equally hard-hitting Georgi got into a third set. Muguruza broke after an epic ten-minute game and her grit, serve and class got her through, so she can continue her challenge to be world no. 1.

I saw a bit of this year’s other grand slam winner Kerber outclass Robson, who is probably wise to go down to the lower-ranked tournaments to string together wins and build her confidence now that she's used up all her protected ranking tokens, as it were.

I’d been aware that they were showing a Plucky Brit, but chose to watch the known female players – I hadn’t realised quite how well Marcus Willis had done, coming from being ranked 772. Of course, if you’ve got through pre-quallies and quallies, you will have got your eye in etc. His opponent seemed to be off his game, but to win in three to play Federer on Centre Court...every year throws up a great story and this may be it.

Day two

I was home in time for the end of Vandeweigh's hard-hitting win in the second set. The really hits the covers off the ball, doesn't she? (Yes, another one.)

So, I mainly got my information about the rain-delayed day from the round-up show. Balding feels visibly nervous (possibly more so because whatever Inverdale lacks, and I think the knowledge to be a commentator on a match is one of them, it's not confidence) and more constrained than she should.

Anyway, Murray was through in three, which was good. Serena Williams is through as is Kyrigos, and lots of matches were rain-delayed, although Wimbledon's roof stopped it from being a wash-out.
