It’s the one time of the year where I notice and regret not being able to receive ITV4 through my Freeview, so I have to watch through my laptop.
So far I’ve had the tennis on in the background more than been watching it: Murray on the backfoot against Stepanek before turning it around; Konta losing to an inspired player who used to be where she is and S Williams stramrollering her opponent; the end of Radwanska versus Garcia and the French crowd and then scraps last night; and Mladenovic and now Ferrer vs. Monaco.
On the women’s side, it seems like Serena’s to win unless if another player randomly steps up, with injured Azarenka and Kerber out. Yes, the fact that she’s growing no younger and didn’t win the last two slams must be playing on her mind and similarly Djokovic is the favourite but he hasn’t ever been able to win the French yet. If Murray could win a match easily, we could go back to the pre-tournament script that he’s playing the best that he’s ever played on this surface and that Nadal seems to have returned to much better form, while Federer is absent and perhaps in decline.
