Well, the match I most wanted to see on Friday was Watson vs. Williams, and I was able to. It exceeded expectations, although I was almost glad, during the intolerable tensions of the third set, of an excuse to walk away from the TV set after the long game at 3-0. I did pop back in and out to follow what happened next. Surely the match of Watson’s life. After losing her serve and thus the first set, she played up, didn’t she? Through her retrieving (such athleticism) and playing so deeply and aggressively when she could, giving the crowd something to feed off, she got to Williams, who started making loads of errors and had to fight like fury to get back into the third set. Wow. Did Watson know that she had it in her to push Williams like that?
I was amused that the Aussie contingent had taken her to heart, less amused that the commentator referred to her as an Englishwoman – she’s from Guernsey, which whoever started up Sweet Chariot might have wanted to consider.
As for Wimbledon 2Day, I have come to learn that people who have watched the whole thing through hate it, and will remain silent until I can make more informed comments.
