feather_ghyllOn Saturday, I saw the start of Murray vs. Kyrigos, before Murray had got the match by the scruff of its neck; the end of Gasquet vs. Anderson, when the Frenchman did get on top of his opponent, although Anderson played really well, given it was clay; and I saw the first set and a half of Williams vs. Azarenka, just as Williams was waking up and playing with intensity that hadn’t been there previously, which had contributed to her being a set and a break down to a quality opponent.
On Sunday, I got the results, but nothing more, while on Monday, I saw the end of Nadal’s match and Djokovic’s match as they set up their tasty QF. I then saw most of Kvitova’s match, where she was very good in the first set, and incapable of winning a game in the second and unable to force the win in the third! This means Serena (who has had a ropey run, but that means nothing) is the only top 4 player through. Ivanovic and Errani are the most experienced ones left at this level...
On Tuesday, I saw most of the final set, where Tsonga and the crowd (?) had more weapons than Nishikori. I was pondering how all the last eight men had either won grand slams or been grand slam finalists, but then I must admit to being shocked that Wawrinka had beaten Federer.
And I’ve now looked up who won today’s women’s matches, which don't really alter my previous comments.
