Ah, the crisp, unique sound of Wimbledon’s Centre Court.

Last night, I arrived home just before the switchover to BBC Two, and I can’t say there was a match I particularly got into. I really wanted to see Tsonga vs. Melzer, but because I have a limited red button service, I couldn’t for most of the evening. By the time that it did become available (they showed it on BBC Two) Melzer was grumbling about the light and Tsonga seemed to have got the measure of him and his dodgy stomach, although, again, Tsonga seems to be off the boil. So, I switched over to watch another match.

No huge, huge surprises, which was almost a surprise after the French, but Djokovic looked exceptionally good. I think I’d got it into my head that Nadal was the no. 1 seed, not the Serb. I clearly put a shade more weight to the fact that he hasn’t won a slam recently than the seeding committee.

It really wasn’t surprising that Fognini barely turned up for the first two sets, had an argument with a supervisor and trashed a racquet and won in five. Although it did seem to shock the commentators of the match when I saw it (towards the end). I wonder if umpires (or vampires!?) dread getting him.

Naomi Broady seems to have a great sense of humour.

'Today at Wimbledon' wasn’t as bad as it could have been – and did give a fairly comprehensive overview of losing British players and more significant results – although it did seems as if the audio and picture weren’t entirely in sync for the clips of matches.

I had hoped to type up and post a review of The Scholarship Girl at Cambridge before Wimbledon started and sucked up my free time, but it wasn't to be.
