TELEVISION: The Great British Sewing Bee 2024 Rounds 1-4
Episode 1: first episode week
I was delighted to see that The Great British Sewing Bee was back. Much was made of the fact that it was 10 years old (although the reel in the never changed title sequence says ‘Est. 2012’, and that disparity is related to the BBC’s loss of Bake Off.) Another new presenter in Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who’d done the Christmas specials and is perfectly personable and capable of reading the gags written for him. Patrick is the only one who was there from the off.

The Great British Sewing Bee is back!
Episode 1 – I’m not sure what the theme of this was, either classics with a twist or getting to know you.
Episode 2 – travel
Episode 3 – West African week. Normally ‘West Africa’ gets a round, but not its own whole theme and even a guest judge, which I believe is a first.

Apparently it’s the sixth series of the show. After the BBC flagged it up as coming soon, but didn’t specify when 'soon' was, it was only by chance that I saw a bit of the Saturday repteat and knew to look for it on iPlayer. I don’t know if it would have made prime time BBC1 had circumstances not been such as they are.

It’s been interesting that when I tell people I’ve been watching this, a lot of them reference the pottery throwdown show and say how much they enjoyed that.
In other news, I am feeling liberated, because on Friday night, I decided to give up on a book that had taken a direction I didn’t want it to. I had avoided it for days and was just thinking I’d have to force myself to finish it before moving on to something more enjoyable, when I realised that no, I didn’t. The bookmark was taken out on Saturday and the book put in the bag for the charity shop.
