TENNIS: Recent events
Nov. 21st, 2017 07:05 amI saw very little of the ATP tour finals, which is the end-of-year tournament where the top 8 male singles players (left standing) and doubles teams compete. This is on television; no chace of my going to the O2. I saw bits of the opening match between Federer and Sock and then Nadal get a trophy as world no. 1. When Nadal pulled out injured after losing, I presumed Federer would win - and it has been an incredible year for both the 'old stagers'. Goffin stopped that. I only caught the last set of the Dimitrov vs. Goffin final, which was fiercely contested. Well done, Dimitrov. I think he wanted it a little more and his body was a little more able. He's had a much better year. With Federer managing his schedule, Nadal and his knee and the other three off, like other good players, he's got to have hopes for next year.
The other recent tennis news has been sad, namely Novotna passing away so young. I was always in the Graf camp, but grew to appreciate Novotna's serve-and-volley game.
