US OPEN: They were live on day five
Sep. 1st, 2007 09:10 amOh yes, you could hear the relish in the commentators' voices at that little rhyme.
I'm presuming that one of the Sky Sports channels, which we don't get, has the main court - I think Eurosport has the second show court rights? I also know that we're spoiled by the BBC (I love the red button) at Wimbledon, but it did occur to me last night that I wouldn't have necessarily stuck with the matches we were shown if I'd had a choice. It felt as if we were watching a Henin practice session for all the trouble her opponent (overmastered by the occasion?) gave her. And although the match between the ugly Tommy Robredo and hideous Mardy Fish went the distance and you couldn't predict what would happen next, it was over-shadowed by the titbits about the Djokovic v Stepanek encounter they kept feeding us. By the time Serena's match was on, I was tennised out, and I must confess to walking out on the early parts of the later Robredo V. Fish sets too.
This morning's round up gave us Tim losing (tough year, and he'll get his due send off at the Davis Cup, where he won't have to string matches together. Hopefully, Murray will get a good run at the Open so that there'll be less pressure all round.) And we got to see the business bits of the 'Jokervitch' (as the commentator enunciated it) five-setter. He does go through it sometimes, doesn't he. Also, with all the bouncing of the ball he does, I am starting to hate it when he misses his first serve. It just feels ike a colossal waste of effort.
Question: why do the ballkids and lines-judges have figures playing polo, of all things, on their back?
My next post will either be a review of 'The School on the Moor' by Dorita Fairlie Bruce or more tennis talk.
