Since I last posted, Nadal pulled out injured, many players have lost, there has been rain – so much so that Monday’s play was cancelled. Will its impact on the schedule affect some players? Apparently conditions did help some stronger women players (quoth the losers).
I’ve seen Djokovic and Murray play and had a lot of tennis on in the background. The no. 1 and 2 seeds are through, as is defending champion Wawrinka and upandcoming Thiem, who has had a good clay court season. From what I saw of his match with Goffin, he's a ferocious player. I’d have liked to have seen Nadal in the mix, but his injury sounds bad and you can’t help wondering if his body will let him return to the top.
As for the women, despite nearly going out in the quarters, Serena Williams still looks set to win this one, although I think either Stosur or Muguruza might prove a stiff challenge.
